Peer Review Process and Policy

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmiah Kebidanan (The Journal of Midwifery) undergo a rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific contribution of published articles.

Initial Screening

After submission, manuscripts will be checked by the editorial staff to ensure that all submission requirements are complete. This administrative check is usually conducted within one week.

Manuscripts that do not meet the submission requirements will be returned to the authors for completion. Authors are given two weeks to fulfill the missing requirements. Failure to complete the requirements within the given time may result in the manuscript being rejected without review.

The editor will then conduct an initial evaluation to determine whether the manuscript fits the focus and scope of the journal and whether it contains any major methodological problems. This process may take up to four weeks.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be sent to two independent reviewers who have expertise relevant to the manuscript topic. Reviewers come from various institutions to ensure objectivity and scientific quality.

The journal applies a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of both the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other during the review process.

Review Decision

Based on the reviewers’ evaluation, the manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

  • Accepted without revision

  • Accepted with minor revisions

  • Accepted with major revisions

  • Rejected

The corresponding author will receive the reviewers’ comments and suggestions and is given the opportunity to revise the manuscript accordingly.

Revision Process

Authors are expected to revise their manuscripts based on the reviewers’ recommendations and resubmit the revised manuscript within the specified time.

Information regarding whether the manuscript is accepted, requires revision, or rejected will be communicated to the corresponding author in writing.

Review Timeline

The peer review process may take up to three months, depending on reviewer availability and the extent of revisions required.

If the author does not complete the revision process within six months, the journal reserves the right to terminate the submission process.

Confidentiality and Ethical Standards

All manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose any information about the submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author and editorial team.

The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and follows international ethical guidelines in scholarly publishing.
