Abstract

Caesarean section (CS) delivery rates continue to rise and have been associated with inadequate antenatal care (ANC), which may delay early detection. Riskesdas 2018 reported inadequate ANC in 35% of CS deliveries, a trend supported by Rahmad (2020) which reported a significant association between prenatal care and delivery mode. This study aimed to examine the association between ANC visit adequacy and the incidence of CS delivery at Dr. Mohamad Saleh Regional General Hospital, Probolinggo. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted using secondary data from 2025 delivery patients. Total sampling was used to include eligible participants, yielding a sample of 93 participants. ANC visit adequacy served as the independent variable, while CS was the dependent variable. The association was analyzed using the chi-square test. Among the 93 participants, CS occurred in 65 out of 74 subjects with inadequate ANC (87.8%), compared to only 8 out of 19 subjects with adequate ANC. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between ANC adequacy and CS incidence (χ²=36.251; p<0.001). Inadequate ANC was significantly associated with higher odds of cesarean section delivery (OR = 9.93; 95% CI = 3.15–31.27). A significant association was observed between ANC visit adequacy and the incidence of CS delivery.
