Choking is an emergency condition commonly experienced by toddlers and can be fatal if not managed promptly. Low parental knowledge regarding choking prevention and first aid contributes to delays in appropriate treatment. Therefore, effective educational efforts are needed to deliver information clearly and efficiently. Audiovisual media are considered suitable because they combine visual and auditory elements that enhance attention and understanding. This study aimed to determine the effect of audiovisual education on parents’ knowledge regarding the prevention and management of choking in toddlers. The research used a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 62 parents of toddlers at Posyandu Beringin 5 in July 2025. The sampling technique was total sampling, with inclusion criteria of parents having toddlers aged 1–5 years who agreed to participate until completion, and exclusion criteria of parents absent during the intervention. The instrument was a knowledge questionnaire consisting of 21 validated and reliable items. The intervention was conducted through a 15-minute educational video shown twice. Data were analyzed using the wilcoxon signed rank test and N-Gain. Results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 71 to 85.8. The Wilcoxon test obtained Z = –6.887 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention. The average N-Gain score of 0.58 was categorized as moderate, showing that audiovisual media effectively improved respondents’ knowledge. Thus, this medium is recommended as an effective and practical health education strategy to enhance parents’ preparedness for critical conditions in toddlers.
