The role of red spinach in increasing iron levels in adolescents with anemia: literature review
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Anemia is a worldwide health problem, especially in developing countries where an estimated 30% of the world's population suffers from anemia. Anemia occurs in many communities, especially in adolescent girls, women of childbearing age, pregnant women and children. To overcome the occurrence of anemia can be done with nonpharmacological methods. Nonpharmacological methods are a safe alternative, namely by consuming red spinach. Red spinach is known as one of the most important sources of iron. Red spinach has various health benefits such as increasing hemoglobin levels or preventing anemia, maintaining blood sugar levels, increasing endurance, and a source of vegetable protein; Methods: Literature review sourced from 11 research articles published in 2019-2024 and retrieved from Google Scholar and Taylor & Francis; Results: Based on the results of 11 journal articles studied and the author's analysis, it was found that there was an effect of red spinach on adolescent girls with anemia; Conclusion: Evaluation of red spinach is needed to increase knowledge in preventing anemia in adolescent girls. Factors associated with the evaluation of red spinach in preventing anemia are: providing knowledge, providing a compliant attitude in taking Fe tablets, consuming nutritious food, healthy living behavior.
