The prevalence of anemia among women of childbearing age in Indonesia remains high. Iron supplementation alone is not able to fully address this problem. Many direct and indirect risk factors contribute to anemia. This study aims to analyze the risk factors for anemia in women of childbearing age. An observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 202 women of childbearing age in Semarang City, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using a bivariate chi-square test. Odds ratios (OR) were calculated to determine the risk of independent variables on anemia. The results showed the prevalence of anemia in women of childbearing age was 49.5%. There was no significant association between anemia and age (p=0.457), mean arterial pressure/MAP (p= 0.795 ; OR=1.436), body mass index/BMI (p=0.848; OR=0.860), menstrual cycle (p=0.222; OR=1.842), menstrual duration (p=0.266; OR=0.550), or exercise habits (p=0.672; OR=1.229). The only variable significantly associated with anemia was maternal history of anemia (p=0.000; OR=4.189). In conclusion, the prevalence of anemia in women of childbearing age is still high. Maternal history of anemia is a significant risk factor for the incidence of anemia. Further studies with a larger sample size and a longer observation period are needed.
