Assessing The Role of Family Support in Complementary Feeding for infants in Central Sulawesi
Abstract
Giving appropriate food to infants aged 6 - 24 months is highly desirable because it is a moment of rapid growth and development of infants, it often termed a golden period as well as a critical period. This study aimed to find out of family support for infant nutrition in the area of Kamonji Primary Health Care, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used 61 mothers who had children aged 6-24 months as sample. The sample are 61 mothers who had children aged 6-24 months. The sample was selected by a simple random sampling technique. Variables of family support refer to emotional, appreciation, material, and informational support. The results showed that emotional support in the supportive category in terms of the husband giving more encouragement and attention when the wife gave complementary foods. Appreciation support given to the wife was the husband giving compliment to the mother every time her child finished food. The category of information support found that the husband advised the mother on the importance of complementary foods, as well as the procedures for preparing them. Family support for infant nutrition plays a very important role, especially the husband as the best supporter for the mother during the period of providing complementary foods for breast milk.
