Abstract

Good oral and dental health is one of the supporting factors for achieving optimal overall health. Efforts to maintain oral and dental health should begin early, during elementary school age. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health education on students' knowledge of oral and dental health maintenance by comparing their knowledge before and after the educational intervention among second- and third-grade students at SD N 1 Takmung in 2025. The study employed descriptive methods to determine the mean and percentage, and analytical methods to examine the effect of the educational intervention on students' knowledge. A pre-test and post-test design was used with a total population of 45 respondents. The results showed that before the educational intervention, the highest frequency of knowledge level was in the fair category, with 27 students (60.00%), while the lowest frequency was in the poor category, with six students (13.33%). After the educational intervention, all respondents (45 students, 100%) were classified in the very good category. The average knowledge score before the intervention was 68.67, categorized as fair, while after the intervention it increased to 92.22, categorized as good. The study concluded that the frequency of knowledge levels improved from predominantly fair to all respondents being in the good category, and the average knowledge score increased from the fair category to the good category. The results of the statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of −5.78 with p < 0.00, indicating a statistically significant difference between the knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention.
