THE EFFECT OF HEALTH PROMOTION BASED ON EDUCATIONAL NEEDS ANALYSIS DURING THE POSTNATAL PERIOD IN BADUNG REGENCY, BALI

Nengah Runiari

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a critical time that needs to be well prepared for during pregnancy. Assessing educational needs can improve mothers' capacity to provide care. There is still little research exploring educational materials and media that meet mothers' needs, so health education has not achieved optimal results. Methods: A two-stage quasi-experimental study design using a pre test-post test design with a control group. The sample was selected using quota sampling, consisting of 200 people, comprising 100 people in the control group and 100 people in the treatment group. The treatment group was given education by health workers using digital media, e-booklets and videos, in accordance with the material needed by mothers. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney U tests. Results: Respondents' knowledge in the intervention group was in the good category (94%) compared to the control group (76%), showing a significant increase (p-value=0.003) in respondents' knowledge. The attitudes of respondents in the intervention group were in the good category (91%), while in the control group, most respondents' attitudes were in the adequate category (93%), showing a significant increase (p-value = 0.000) in respondents' attitudes. The self-efficacy of respondents in the treatment group was in the good category (92%), which was higher than that of the control group (32%), showing a significant increase (p-value = 0.000) in the self-efficacy of respondents in providing maternal and infant care. Conclusion: Providing educational materials using media preferred by mothers can be developed to prepare mothers for the postpartum period. Health promotion based on educational needs analysis has been proven effective in improving the knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy of postpartum mothers in caring for mothers and babies.
